「耶路撒冷啊！耶路撒冷啊！你常殺害先知，又用石頭打死派到你那裡的使者。我多次想要招聚你的兒女，像母雞將小雞聚集在翅膀底下，可是你們卻不肯。

但那些佃戶卻抓住他的奴僕，打傷一個，殺死一個，又用石頭打死了一個。於是，園主又派更多的奴僕去，結果也遭到同樣的對待。

你多年來容忍他們，差遣你的靈藉著你的眾先知警告他們，但他們依然不肯聽從，於是你把他們交在列邦手中。

你們要憐憫人，像你們的天父憐憫人一樣。

你們為人子的緣故而遭人憎恨、棄絕、侮辱、毀謗，就有福了！那時你們要歡喜雀躍，因為你們在天上有大賞賜！他們的祖先也曾這樣惡待以前的先知。

其餘的竟然抓住王的奴僕，把他們羞辱一番後殺了。

要歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上有很大的獎賞。他們也曾這樣迫害以前的先知。

其實我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人們卻任意對待他，正如聖經的記載。」

從你們的祖先離開埃及那天起，一直到今天，我日復一日地差遣我的僕人——眾先知到你們那裡，但你們掩耳不聽，頑固不化，比你們的祖先更邪惡。耶利米啊，你將這番話告訴他們，他們也不會聽；你向他們呼籲，他們也不會回應。你要對他們說，『你們這些國民不聽你們上帝耶和華的話，不肯受管教，口中毫無真理。
