一婦患血崩者十有二年、曾就多醫、盡耗家貲；卒無能療之者、

彼等雖艱苦備嘗、而神樂恆湧於心中；貧窮至極、而熱情獨異乎尋常；慷慨輸將、惟力是視、甚有超過其力量者；此吾可為之作證也。

而此子狎妓耗財、返則宰肥犢以享之！」

此番承爾關懷不勝欣慰感主之至。實則爾錦注已久、特未得機緣以作表示耳、此非予之寒酸語也蓋就予一己言之、實已修得隨遇而安、知足常樂之境。窮約之味、予固知之；寬裕之味、予亦知之；一切境遇、予已窺其堂奧、測其深淺、外物何有於我哉。故溫飽可也、凍餓亦可也；有餘可也、不足亦未始不可也。總之、予恃全能之主、故能應付萬變、遊刃有餘耳。雖然、爾等與我共患難、而濟我之急、爾之所為誠善矣。且當予初傳福音、自馬其頓出發之際、未有其他教會與我合作、惟爾斐立比人已慨然與我通有無。即在德颯洛尼時、爾亦曾一再遣人供我之需。顧予所為汲汲者、不在爾之資助、而在為爾廣收慷慨之妙果耳。

季謂父曰：「父、請以兒應承之產、提前見畀、」父乃為二子析產。

復睹一貧嫠、投入二錢、乃曰：『予實語爾、此貧嫠所納者、實視彼眾為多；蓋彼眾出其所餘、聊以為貢、而此婦則於不足中、而傾輸其生活之資矣。』
