To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

To love God with all your heart and mind and strength is very important. So is loving your neighbor as you love yourself. These things are more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

「我朝見耶和華，在至高神面前跪拜，當獻上甚麼呢？難道獻一歲的牛犢為燔祭來朝見他嗎？耶和華豈喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？我豈可為自己的過犯獻我的長子，為自己的罪惡獻我所親生的嗎？」世人哪，耶和華已指示你何為善。他向你所要的是甚麼呢？只要你行公義，好憐憫，存謙卑的心與你的神同行。

我喜愛慈愛，不喜愛祭物；喜愛人認識神，勝於燔祭。

撒母耳說：「耶和華喜愛燔祭和祭物，豈如喜愛人聽從他的話呢？看哪，聽命勝於獻祭，順從勝於公羊的脂肪。

『我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀。』你們若明白這話的意思，就不將無罪的當作有罪了。

經上說：『我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀。』這句話的意思，你們去揣摩。我不是來召義人，而是召罪人。」

我並不因你的祭物責備你；你的燔祭常在我面前。我不從你家中取公牛，也不從你圈內取公山羊；因為，林中的百獸是我的，千山的牲畜也是我的。山中的飛鳥，我都知道，田野的走獸也都屬我。「我若是飢餓，不用告訴你，因為世界和其中所充滿的都是我的。我豈吃公牛的肉呢？我豈喝公山羊的血呢？你們要以感謝為祭獻給神，又要向至高者還你的願，並要在患難之日求告我，我必搭救你，你也要榮耀我。」

我若能說人間的方言，甚至天使的語言，卻沒有愛，我就成為鳴的鑼、響的鈸一般。我若有先知講道的能力，也明白各樣的奧祕，各樣的知識，而且有齊備的信心，使我能夠移山，卻沒有愛，我就算不了甚麼。我若將所有的財產救濟窮人，又犧牲自己的身體讓人誇讚，卻沒有愛，仍然對我無益。

耶和華說：「你們許多的祭物於我何益呢？公綿羊的燔祭和肥畜的油脂，我已經膩煩了；公牛、羔羊、公山羊的血，我都不喜悅。「你們來朝見我，誰向你們的手要求這些，使你們踐踏我的院宇呢？不要再獻無謂的供物了，香是我所憎惡的。我不能容忍行惡又守嚴肅會：初一、安息日和召集的大會。你們的初一和節期，我心裏恨惡，它們成了我的重擔，擔當這些，令我厭煩。你們舉手禱告，我必遮眼不看，就算你們多多祈禱，我也不聽；你們的手沾滿了血。你們要洗滌、自潔，從我眼前除掉惡行；要停止作惡，學習行善，尋求公平，幫助受欺壓的，替孤兒伸冤，為寡婦辯護。」

凡以感謝獻祭的就是榮耀我；那按正路而行的，我必使他得着神的救恩。」

這豈是我所要的禁食，為人所用以刻苦己心的日子嗎？我難道只是叫人如蘆葦般低頭，鋪上麻布和灰燼嗎？你能稱此為禁食，為耶和華所悅納的日子嗎？我所要的禁食，豈不是要你鬆開兇惡的繩，解開軛上的索，使被欺壓的得自由，折斷一切的軛嗎？豈不是要你把食物分給飢餓的人，將流浪的窮人接到家中，見赤身的給他衣服遮體，而不隱藏自己避開你的骨肉嗎？

行公義和公平比獻祭更蒙耶和華悅納。

「我厭惡你們的節期，也不喜悅你們的嚴肅會。你們雖然向我獻燔祭和素祭，我卻不悅納，也不看你們用肥畜獻的平安祭。要使你們歌唱的聲音遠離我，因為我不聽你們琴瑟的樂曲。惟願公平如大水滾滾，公義如江河滔滔。

萬軍之耶和華－以色列的神如此說：「你們要將燔祭加在你們的祭物上，又要吃肉；因為我將你們祖先從埃及地領出來的那日，燔祭和祭物的事我並沒有提說，也沒有吩咐他們。我只吩咐他們這一件事說：『你們當聽從我的話，我就作你們的神，你們也作我的子民。你們行走我所吩咐的一切道路，就可以得福。』

以上說：「祭物和禮物，以及燔祭和贖罪祭，不是你所要的，也不是你喜歡的。」這都是按着律法獻的。
