To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

To love God with all your heart and mind and strength is very important. So is loving your neighbor as you love yourself. These things are more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

我朝見耶和華，在至高神面前跪拜，當獻上甚麼呢？豈可獻一歲的牛犢為燔祭嗎？耶和華豈喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？我豈可為自己的罪過獻我的長子嗎？為心中的罪惡獻我身所生的嗎？世人哪，耶和華已指示你何為善。他向你所要的是甚麼呢？只要你行公義，好憐憫，存謙卑的心，與你的神同行。

我喜愛良善，不喜愛祭祀；喜愛認識神，勝於燔祭。

撒母耳說：耶和華喜悅燔祭和平安祭，豈如喜悅人聽從他的話呢？聽命勝於獻祭；順從勝於公羊的脂油。

『我喜愛憐恤，不喜愛祭祀。』你們若明白這話的意思，就不將無罪的當作有罪的了。

經上說：『我喜愛憐恤，不喜愛祭祀。』這句話的意思，你們且去揣摩。我來本不是召義人，乃是召罪人。」

我並不因你的祭物責備你；你的燔祭常在我面前。我不從你家中取公牛，也不從你圈內取山羊；因為，樹林中的百獸是我的，千山上的牲畜也是我的。山中的飛鳥，我都知道；野地的走獸也都屬我。我若是飢餓，我不用告訴你，因為世界和其中所充滿的都是我的。我豈吃公牛的肉呢？我豈喝山羊的血呢？你們要以感謝為祭獻與神，又要向至高者還你的願，並要在患難之日求告我；我必搭救你，你也要榮耀我。

我若能說萬人的方言，並天使的話語，卻沒有愛，我就成了鳴的鑼，響的鈸一般。我若有先知講道之能，也明白各樣的奧祕，各樣的知識，而且有全備的信，叫我能夠移山，卻沒有愛，我就算不得甚麼。我若將所有的賙濟窮人，又捨己身叫人焚燒，卻沒有愛，仍然與我無益。

耶和華說：你們所獻的許多祭物與我何益呢？公綿羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂油，我已經夠了；公牛的血，羊羔的血，公山羊的血，我都不喜悅。你們來朝見我，誰向你們討這些，使你們踐踏我的院宇呢？你們不要再獻虛浮的供物。香品是我所憎惡的；月朔和安息日，並宣召的大會，也是我所憎惡的；作罪孽，又守嚴肅會，我也不能容忍。你們的月朔和節期，我心裏恨惡，我都以為麻煩；我擔當，便不耐煩。你們舉手禱告，我必遮眼不看；就是你們多多地祈禱，我也不聽。你們的手都滿了殺人的血。你們要洗濯、自潔，從我眼前除掉你們的惡行，要止住作惡，學習行善，尋求公平，解救受欺壓的；給孤兒伸冤，為寡婦辨屈。

凡以感謝獻上為祭的便是榮耀我；那按正路而行的，我必使他得着我的救恩。

這樣禁食豈是我所揀選、使人刻苦己心的日子嗎？豈是叫人垂頭像葦子，用麻布和爐灰鋪在他以下嗎？你這可稱為禁食、為耶和華所悅納的日子嗎？我所揀選的禁食不是要鬆開凶惡的繩，解下軛上的索，使被欺壓的得自由，折斷一切的軛嗎？不是要把你的餅分給飢餓的人，將飄流的窮人接到你家中，見赤身的給他衣服遮體，顧恤自己的骨肉而不掩藏嗎？

行仁義公平比獻祭更蒙耶和華悅納。

我厭惡你們的節期，也不喜悅你們的嚴肅會。你們雖然向我獻燔祭和素祭，我卻不悅納，也不顧你們用肥畜獻的平安祭；要使你們歌唱的聲音遠離我，因為我不聽你們彈琴的響聲。惟願公平如大水滾滾，使公義如江河滔滔。

萬軍之耶和華－以色列的神如此說：「你們將燔祭加在平安祭上，吃肉吧！因為我將你們列祖從埃及地領出來的那日，燔祭平安祭的事我並沒有提說，也沒有吩咐他們。我只吩咐他們這一件說：『你們當聽從我的話，我就作你們的神，你們也作我的子民。你們行我所吩咐的一切道，就可以得福。』

以上說：「祭物和禮物，燔祭和贖罪祭，是你不願意的，也是你不喜歡的（這都是按着律法獻的）」；
