To love God with all your heart and mind and strength is very important. So is loving your neighbor as you love yourself. These things are more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

我朝見耶和華，在至高的神面前叩拜，當獻上甚麼呢？我朝見他的時候，當獻上燔祭，當獻上一歲的牛犢嗎？耶和華喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？為我的過犯，我可以獻上我的長子嗎？為我的罪惡，獻上我親生的孩子嗎？世人哪！耶和華已經指示你甚麼是善，他向你所要的又是甚麼；無非是要你行公義，好憐憫，謙虛謹慎與你的神同行。

我喜愛憐恤，不喜愛祭祀；我喜愛人認識神的知識，勝過人獻的燔祭。

撒母耳說：“耶和華喜悅燔祭和平安祭，豈像喜悅人聽從耶和華的話呢？聽從勝過獻祭，聽命勝過公羊的脂油。

如果你們明白‘我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀’這句話的意思，就不會把無罪的定罪了。

‘我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀’，你們去想一想這話的意思吧。我來不是要召義人，而是要召罪人。”

我不是因你的祭物責備你，你的燔祭常在我面前。我不從你家裡取公牛，也不從你羊圈中取公山羊。因為樹林中的百獸是我的，千山上的牲畜也是我的。山中的雀鳥我都認識，田野的走獸也都屬我。如果我餓了，我也不用對你說；因為世界和其中所充滿的，都是我的。難道我要吃公牛的肉嗎？要喝公山羊的血嗎？你要以感謝為祭獻給神，又要向至高者還你的願。在患難的日子，你呼求我。我必搭救你，你也必尊敬我。”

我若能說世人和天使的方言，卻沒有愛，我就成了鳴的鑼、響的鈸一樣。我若有先知講道的恩賜，也明白各樣的奧祕，各樣的知識；並且有全備的信，叫我能夠移山，卻沒有愛，我就算不得甚麼。我若把一切所有的分給人，又捨己身被人焚燒，卻沒有愛，對我仍然毫無益處。

耶和華說：“你們獻上眾多祭物，對我有甚麼益處呢？公綿羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂肪，我已經夠了；公牛、羊羔和公山羊的血，我都不喜悅。你們來朝見我的時候，誰要求你們這樣踐踏我的院子呢？不要再帶沒有意義的供物來了，燒獻祭物的香氣也是我厭惡的。我厭煩月朔、安息日和集會；作罪孽又守嚴肅會，是我不能容忍的。你們的月朔和制定的節期，我心裡恨惡；它們都成了我的重擔，我已承擔得不耐煩了。所以你們張開雙手的時候，我必掩眼不看你們；即使你們多多禱告，我也不聽；你們的手都沾滿血腥。你們要洗滌自己，潔淨自己；從我眼前除掉你們的惡行；要停止作惡，學習行善，尋求公平，指責殘暴的人，替孤兒伸冤，為寡婦辨屈。”

凡是以感謝為祭獻上的，就是尊敬我；那預備道路的，我必使他得見神的救恩。”

使人刻苦自己的日子，這樣的禁食是我揀選的嗎？難道只是叫人垂頭像一根葦子，用麻布和爐灰鋪在下面嗎？你可以稱這是禁食，為耶和華所悅納的日子嗎？我所揀選的禁食不是這樣嗎？不是要鬆開兇惡的鎖鍊，解開軛上的繩索，使被壓迫的獲得自由，折斷所有的軛嗎？不是要把你的食物分給飢餓的人，把流浪的窮困人接到你的家裡，見到赤身露體的，給他衣服蔽體，不可逃避自己的骨肉而不顧恤嗎？

秉公行義，比獻祭更蒙耶和華悅納。

我憎恨、厭惡你們的節期，也不喜愛你們的節日。雖然你們給我獻上燔祭和素祭，我卻不接受。你們獻上肥美的牲畜作平安祭，我也不悅納。你們唱歌的吵聲要遠離我，我不想聽見你們的琴聲。但願公正好像潮水滾流，公義好像河水長流。

萬軍之耶和華以色列的神這樣說：“你們儘管把燔祭加在平安祭上，自己吃祭肉吧！因為我把你們列祖從埃及地領出來的那日，燔祭和平安祭的事，我並沒有向他們提說，也沒有吩咐他們。我只吩咐他們這一件事，說：‘你們要聽從我的話，我就作你們的神，你們也作我的子民；你們要遵行我所吩咐的一切道，好使你們蒙福。’

前面說：“祭品和禮物，燔祭和贖罪祭，不是你所要的，也不是你所喜悅的。”這些都是按照律法獻的；
