于是他们窥探耶稣，打发奸细装作好人，要在他的话上抓把柄，好把他交给总督处置。奸细就问耶稣：“老师，我们知道你所讲所教的都很正确，也不看人的面子，而是诚诚实实传神的道。我们纳税给凯撒合不合法？”耶稣看出他们的诡诈，就对他们说：“拿一个银币来给我看。这像和这名号是谁的？”他们说：“是凯撒的。”耶稣对他们说：“这样，凯撒的归凯撒，神的归神。”他们无法当着百姓在他的话上抓到把柄，又因他的对答而惊讶，就闭口不言了。

法利赛人出去，立刻同希律一党的人商议怎样除掉耶稣。

耶稣嘱咐他们说：“你们要谨慎，要防备法利赛人的酵和希律的酵。”

他们说：“来吧！让我们设计谋害耶利米；因为我们有祭司讲律法，有智慧人设谋略，有先知说预言，都未曾断绝。来吧！让我们用舌头攻击他，不要理他一切的话。”

那寻索我命的设下罗网，那想要害我的口出恶言，整日思想诡计。

骄傲的人为我暗设罗网和绳索；他们在路旁张开网，为我设下圈套。（细拉）

他们终日扭曲我的话，千方百计加害于我。他们聚集，埋伏，窥探我的脚踪，等候要害我的命。

于是，法利赛人出去商议，怎样找话柄来陷害耶稣，就打发他们的门徒同希律党人去见耶稣，说：“老师，我们知道你是诚实的，并且诚诚实实传神的道，无论谁你都一视同仁，因为你不看人的面子。请告诉我们，你的意见如何？纳税给凯撒合不合法？”耶稣看出他们的恶意，就说：“假冒为善的人哪，为什么试探我？拿一个纳税的钱给我看！”他们就拿一个银币来给他。耶稣问他们：“这像和这名号是谁的？”他们说：“是凯撒的。”于是耶稣说：“这样，凯撒的归凯撒；神的归神。”他们听了十分惊讶，就离开他走了。

他们凭一句话定一个人有罪，为在城门口断是非的设下罗网，又用虚无的事屈枉义人。

耶稣对他们说：“你们要谨慎，要防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵。”
