他們牽著驢駒回去見耶穌，又把自己的外衣搭在驢背上，扶耶穌上驢。耶穌騎著驢前行，眾人用外衣為祂鋪路。

這件事是要應驗先知的話：「要對錫安城說，『看啊，你的君王來了！祂謙卑地騎著驢，騎著一頭驢駒。』」

錫安城啊，要充滿喜樂！耶路撒冷城啊，要歡呼！看啊，你的王到你這裡來了！祂是公義、得勝的王，謙卑地騎著驢，騎著一頭驢駒。

把母驢和驢駒帶了回來。他們把自己的衣服蓋在驢背上，讓耶穌騎上去。許多人把衣服鋪在路上，也有些人砍下樹枝鋪在路上。

第二天，很多上來過節的人聽見耶穌快到耶路撒冷了，就拿著棕樹枝出去迎接祂，並且高聲歡呼：「和散那！奉主名來的以色列王當受稱頌！」那時，耶穌找到一頭驢駒，就騎上牠，正如聖經記載：「錫安的居民啊，不要害怕！你的君王騎著驢駒來了。」起初門徒不明白這些事，後來耶穌得了榮耀，他們才想起聖經上這些有關耶穌的記載果然在祂身上應驗了。

他們連忙將自己的衣服鋪在耶戶腳下的臺階上，吹響號角，高喊：「耶戶做王了！」
