They discussed with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’

They reasoned with themselves, saying,“ If we should say,‘ From heaven;’ he will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

明日、約翰見耶穌就己、乃曰、觀天主之羔、負世之罪者、

約翰門徒去後、耶穌舉約翰語眾曰、爾昔出野、欲何觀耶、觀葦動於風乎、爾出、欲何觀耶、觀人衣美服乎、夫衣美服者、在王宮也、然則爾出、欲何觀耶、觀先知乎、我誠告爾、彼大於先知、經載云、我遣我使在爾前、以修爾道、是言即指斯人也、我誠告爾、凡婦之所生、未有大於施洗約翰、然在天國至小者猶大於彼、自施洗約翰至今、人皆勉力欲得天國、勉力者得之、蓋諸先知及律法預言至約翰也、若爾願承我言、當來之以利亞、即斯人也、

約翰之施洗何自、自天乎、自人乎、眾竊議曰、若云自天、彼必曰、然則何不信之、若云自人、我又懼眾、蓋眾皆以約翰為先知、遂對耶穌曰、我儕不知、耶穌曰、我亦不告爾我以何權行此諸事、

此二者、誰遵父之旨、對曰、長子、耶穌曰、我誠告爾、稅吏與妓女必先爾入天主之國、蓋約翰以義道就爾、爾不信之、而稅吏與妓女信之、且爾見此、仍不悔改以信、○

我見而證其為天主之子、○
