They discussed it among themselves and said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

They talked to each other about it. They said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.

And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’

And they reasoned among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

They began to argue among themselves:“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

They discussed with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’

They reasoned with themselves, saying,“ If we should say,‘ From heaven;’ he will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

次日，約翰看見耶穌來到他那裏，就說：「看哪，神的羔羊，除去世人罪孽的！

約翰為他作見證，喊着說：「這就是我曾說：『那在我以後來的，反成了在我以前的，因他本來在我以前。』」

他見耶穌行走，就說：「看哪，這是神的羔羊！」

娶新婦的就是新郎；新郎的朋友站着，聽見新郎的聲音就甚喜樂。故此，我這喜樂滿足了。他必興旺，我必衰微。」「從天上來的是在萬有之上；從地上來的是屬乎地，他所說的也是屬乎地。從天上來的是在萬有之上。他將所見所聞的見證出來，只是沒有人領受他的見證。那領受他見證的，就印上印，證明神是真的。神所差來的就說神的話，因為神賜聖靈給他是沒有限量的。父愛子，已將萬有交在他手裏。信子的人有永生；不信子的人得不着永生，神的震怒常在他身上。」

他們走的時候，耶穌就對眾人講論約翰說：「你們從前出到曠野是要看甚麼呢？要看風吹動的蘆葦嗎？你們出去到底是要看甚麼？要看穿細軟衣服的人嗎？那穿細軟衣服的人是在王宮裏。你們出去究竟是為甚麼？是要看先知嗎？我告訴你們，是的，他比先知大多了。經上記着說：『我要差遣我的使者在你前面預備道路』，所說的就是這個人。我實在告訴你們，凡婦人所生的，沒有一個興起來大過施洗約翰的；然而天國裏最小的比他還大。從施洗約翰的時候到如今，天國是努力進入的，努力的人就得着了。因為眾先知和律法說預言，到約翰為止。你們若肯領受，這人就是那應當來的以利亞。

約翰的洗禮是從哪裏來的？是從天上來的？是從人間來的呢？」他們彼此商議說：「我們若說『從天上來』，他必對我們說：『這樣，你們為甚麼不信他呢？』若說『從人間來』，我們又怕百姓，因為他們都以約翰為先知。」於是回答耶穌說：「我們不知道。」耶穌說：「我也不告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄做這些事。」

你們想，這兩個兒子是哪一個遵行父命呢？」他們說：「大兒子。」耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們，稅吏和娼妓倒比你們先進神的國。因為約翰遵着義路到你們這裏來，你們卻不信他；稅吏和娼妓倒信他。你們看見了，後來還是不懊悔去信他。」

我看見了，就證明這是神的兒子。」
