They discussed it among themselves and said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’

And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.

次日，约翰看见耶稣来到他那里，就说：“看哪，神的羔羊，除去世人罪孽的！

约翰为他作见证，喊着说：“这就是我曾说：‘那在我以后来的，反成了在我以前的，因他本来在我以前。’”

他见耶稣行走，就说：“看哪，这是神的羔羊！”

娶新妇的就是新郎；新郎的朋友站着，听见新郎的声音就甚喜乐。故此，我这喜乐满足了。他必兴旺，我必衰微。”“从天上来的是在万有之上；从地上来的是属乎地，他所说的也是属乎地。从天上来的是在万有之上。他将所见所闻的见证出来，只是没有人领受他的见证。那领受他见证的，就印上印，证明神是真的。神所差来的就说神的话，因为神赐圣灵给他是没有限量的。父爱子，已将万有交在他手里。信子的人有永生；不信子的人得不着永生，神的震怒常在他身上。”

他们走的时候，耶稣就对众人讲论约翰说：“你们从前出到旷野是要看什么呢？要看风吹动的芦苇吗？你们出去到底是要看什么？要看穿细软衣服的人吗？那穿细软衣服的人是在王宫里。你们出去究竟是为什么？是要看先知吗？我告诉你们，是的，他比先知大多了。经上记着说：‘我要差遣我的使者在你前面预备道路’，所说的就是这个人。我实在告诉你们，凡妇人所生的，没有一个兴起来大过施洗约翰的；然而天国里最小的比他还大。从施洗约翰的时候到如今，天国是努力进入的，努力的人就得着了。因为众先知和律法说预言，到约翰为止。你们若肯领受，这人就是那应当来的以利亚。

约翰的洗礼是从哪里来的？是从天上来的？是从人间来的呢？”他们彼此商议说：“我们若说‘从天上来’，他必对我们说：‘这样，你们为什么不信他呢？’若说‘从人间来’，我们又怕百姓，因为他们都以约翰为先知。”于是回答耶稣说：“我们不知道。”耶稣说：“我也不告诉你们我仗着什么权柄做这些事。”

你们想，这两个儿子是哪一个遵行父命呢？”他们说：“大儿子。”耶稣说：“我实在告诉你们，税吏和娼妓倒比你们先进神的国。因为约翰遵着义路到你们这里来，你们却不信他；税吏和娼妓倒信他。你们看见了，后来还是不懊悔去信他。”

我看见了，就证明这是神的儿子。”
