And it came to pass,[ that] on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon[ him] with the elders,And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.And they answered, that they could not tell whence[ it was].And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

After two days was[ the feast of] the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put[ him] to death.

Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed,[ saying],Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch.

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
