就在那些日子里，有一天耶稣在圣殿里教导民众、传福音的时候，祭司长们、经文士们和长老们一起上前来，对他说：“请告诉我们：你凭什么权柄做这些事？是谁给你这权柄的？”耶稣回答他们，说：“我也要问你们一个问题，你们告诉我：约翰的洗礼是来自天上，还是来自人间呢？”他们就彼此商量，说：“如果我们说‘是来自天上’，他就会问‘你们为什么不相信他呢？’但如果说‘是来自人间’，那么民众都会用石头砸我们，因为他们深信约翰是先知。”于是他们回答：“不知道是从哪里来的。”耶稣就对他们说：“我也不告诉你们我凭什么权柄做这些事。”

“事实上，希律和本丢彼拉多，与外邦人和以色列子民果然在这城里一同聚集，对付你所膏立的圣仆耶稣，做成了你手和你计划所预定要成就的一切事。

到了第二天，犹太人的首领、长老和经文士们都聚集在耶路撒冷。大祭司亚纳、该亚法、约翰、亚历山大，以及大祭司家族的人都在那里。他们叫彼得和约翰站在中间，质问他们，说：“你们凭着什么能力，以谁的名做这事？”那时，彼得被圣灵充满，对他们说：“民众的首领和长老们，

过两天就是逾越节和除酵节了。祭司长们和经文士们在图谋怎样用诡计拘捕耶稣，把他杀掉。

耶稣回答他：“我一向公开地对世人讲话。我总是在会堂和圣殿，就是所有犹太人聚集的地方教导人。我没有在隐秘中讲过什么。

为什么万国悖逆，万民图谋虚妄的事呢？地上的君王们站出来，首领们一同商定，敌对耶和华和他的受膏者，说：“让我们挣断他们的捆绑，把他们的绳索从我们身上甩掉！”坐在天上的那一位会讥笑，主会嘲笑他们。那时他在怒气中向他们说话，在烈怒中使他们惶恐，说：

耶稣正在圣殿的所罗门柱廊上走着，

万军之耶和华说：“看哪，我要派遣我的使者在我前面预备道路！你们所寻求的主，必突然来到他的殿；看哪，你们所喜悦的那立约的使者，就要来到！”
