But Jesus told them,“ He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.

耶穌對他們說：「摩西因為你們的心硬，所以寫這誡命給你們。

耶穌對他們說：「摩西因為你們的心硬，所以寫這誡命給你們。

耶穌說：「摩西因為你們心硬，才給你們寫了這條誡命。

耶穌說：“因為你們的心硬，摩西才寫這條例給你們。

耶穌對他們說：『是為着你們的硬心摩西才寫了這條誡命給你們的。

耶穌對他們說：「摩西因著你們的心裡剛硬，才給你們定下這條誡命。

耶穌曰、以爾心頑、故書斯命予爾、

耶穌曰、摩西以爾心忍、故有斯命、

耶穌曰、摩西以爾心忍、故有此命、

耶穌曰：『摩西以爾心如鐵石、故為爾書此誡命、非得已也。

“ It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied.

“ You were stubborn. That’s why Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied.

And Jesus said to them,“ Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.

But Jesus responded,“ He wrote this commandment only as a concession to your hard hearts.

And Jesus answered and said to them,“ Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.

But our ancestors acted arrogantly; they became stiff-necked and did not listen to Your commands.They refused to listen and did not remember Your wonders You performed among them. They became stiff-necked and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in faithful love, and You did not abandon them.

“ You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit; as your ancestors did, so do you.

But they were disobedient and rebelled against You. They flung Your law behind their backs and killed Your prophets who warned them in order to turn them back to You. They committed terrible blasphemies.

He told them,“ Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts. But it was not like that from the beginning.

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear His voice,do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My worksfor 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said,“ They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways.”

For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you are rebelling against the Lord now, while I am still alive, how much more will you rebel after I am dead!

Understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.
