伏維吾主耶穌基督及天主聖父、既自始寵愛吾人、而惠賜吾人以無窮之慰望、

是故爾目前雖感憂苦、迨予重復見爾、則爾必欣然而樂、爾心之樂、人莫奪焉。是日爾將無所問於予矣。予切實語爾爾有所祈於父、父必以予名義、賜之於爾。

身處逆境而能堅忍自守者乃為有福之人。蓋經試練而不渝者；必獲生命之冠、此固天主所許於其孝愛之子也。

吾勸爾向我購置百煉之金、俾成真富；純白之衣、用掩爾羞；傅目之膏、以啟爾視。

蓋罪孽之果報為死、而天主之恩賜、則因耶穌基督而獲永生是已。

不寧惟是、吾人雖處患難、心中恆有至樂。蓋知患難所以生堅忍、

宗徒既離公會、心竊自喜、竟蒙特寵、得為聖名而受辱、何樂如之。

且天主全能、必使各種美德暢茂條達於爾等之胸中、俾爾等萬事舉足、無善不俱。經云：『平生疏財、博施濟貧、宜其義德、千秋永存、』此之謂也。夫主既賜爾以種子、供爾以𩝠糧、亦必使爾之種子發榮滋長而為爾激增正義之果實也。蓋爾等既眾德萃身、而發為慷慨之豪舉、吾儕更當將此慷慨、化為眾口誦主之因緣。

爾之憂患、爾之窮乏、吾所知也。雖然、爾實貧而富者也！彼自名為義塞人而非義塞人、實屬沙殫之黨羽者、謗爾誣爾、吾亦知之。

語侵人子、猶可宥也；語忤聖神、則斯世來世、莫之宥矣。

在斯一日。勝似千春。寧在主宅。充一閽人。莫為惡逆。入幕之賓。

親愛之同道乎、爾等之受煆煉、所以玉汝於成、切勿大驚小怪、一若遭遇不測也者。應知此乃可喜之事。蓋爾等既得與基督共患難、則於彼光榮顯現之日、必得與之同樂、將不知手之舞之、足之蹈之矣。爾等若果因基督之名而受唾罵、福莫大焉！蓋誠能如此、則光榮大能之聖神、天主之聖神、以爾為安宅矣。兄弟慎毋以殺人竊盜、為非作惡、或捨己耘人而受苦也。若為服膺基督之教而受苦、則非惟不可引以為辱、且當以此名義、歸榮於天主也。

惟先求天國及其正義、則其餘一切、必加爾身矣。

我兄弟如陷於殷憂多難之中、則當引以為樂。須知橫逆之來、能磨練爾之信德、使爾堅忍不拔，而堅忍不拔、乃所以玉汝於成、而躋爾於純全無缺之地也。

夫樂道安貧、祿在其中矣。

爾等為予之故、而被人詬詈迫辱、多方誣衊者、斯為真福、是宜歡欣踴躍、灑然而樂。蓋爾之天爵大矣。前輩先知被人迫辱、亦猶是耳。

耶穌行至殿中、至所羅門廊下、

忽地震甚劇、獄基撼動、監門頓啟、囚者鎖鍊自脫。

天國猶如田間寶藏、有人偶發、即掩之、忻然而去、盡售所有、購置新田。天國又如賈者之求美珠、見希世之珠、即售其所有以市之。

此即永生、亦即天主所夙許於吾人之恩諾也。

彼等以暫時忍受、換得永久之福樂、不亦可羨乎？約伯之忍耐、爾曾聞之、且曾見之。而主之如何溫燠其晚境、皆昭昭在爾耳目。主之富於惻怛哀矜、於此可見一斑。
