Come now, you rich people! Weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you.Your wealth is ruined and your clothes are moth-eaten.Your silver and gold are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You stored up treasure in the last days!

Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.

“ Here is the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, taking refuge in his destructive behavior.”

Because you say,‘ I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked,

“ Children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for Me, and just as I told the Jews,‘ Where I am going you cannot come,’ so now I tell you.

Woe to him who dishonestly makes wealth for his house to place his nest on high, to escape from the reach of disaster!

By your wisdom and understanding you have acquired wealth for yourself. You have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, but your heart has become proud because of your wealth.”

As soon as your eyes fly to it, it disappears, for it makes wings for itself and flies like an eagle to the sky.

This is what the Lord says: The wise man must not boast in his wisdom; the strong man must not boast in his strength; the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth.

The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and scoffing at Him.

“ Men,” Jesus called to them,“ you don’t have any fish, do you?”“ No,” they answered.

When the disciples heard this, they were utterly astonished and asked,“ Then who can be saved?”

Then He told them a parable:“ A rich man’s land was very productive.He thought to himself,‘ What should I do, since I don’t have anywhere to store my crops?I will do this,’ he said.‘ I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones and store all my grain and my goods there.Then I’ll say to myself,“ You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’“ That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Their silver and their gold will not be able to rescue them on the day of the Lord’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy. For He will make a complete, yes, a horrifying end of all the inhabitants of the earth.

You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Those who heard this asked,“ Then who can be saved?”He replied,“ What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

Place no trust in oppression, or false hope in robbery. If wealth increases, pay no attention to it.

A rich man’s wealth is his fortified city; in his imagination it is like a high wall.

Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

With Your hand, Lord, save me from men, from men of the world whose portion is in this life: You fill their bellies with what You have in store; their sons are satisfied, and they leave their surplus to their children.

They trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches.Yet these cannot redeem a person or pay his ransom to God—

My children, I am again suffering labor pains for you until Christ is formed in you.

If I placed my confidence in gold or called fine gold my trust,if I have rejoiced because my wealth is great or because my own hand has acquired so much,

Therefore, when many of His disciples heard this, they said,“ This teaching is hard! Who can accept it?”
