And this was his message:“ After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.

Here is what John was preaching.“ After me, there is someone coming who is more powerful than I am. I’m not good enough to bend down and untie his sandals.

And he preached, saying,“ After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.

John announced:“ Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am— so much greater that I’m not even worthy to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals.

He proclaimed,“ One who is more powerful than I am is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of his sandals.

And he was preaching, saying,“ After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to bend down and untie the straps of His sandals.

And he preached, saying,“ There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.

And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

He was preaching:“ Someone more powerful than I will come after me. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of His sandals.

And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

He proclaimed,“ One more powerful than I am is coming after me; I am not worthy to bend down and untie the strap of his sandals.

As John was fulfilling his course, he said,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”

John answered them all,“ I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,

I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.

But John would have hindered him, saying,“ I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”

Jesus went with them. When he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him,“ Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I am not worthy for you to come under my roof.Therefore I didn’t even think myself worthy to come to you; but say the word, and my servant will be healed.

You yourselves testify that I said,‘ I am not the Christ,’ but,‘ I have been sent before him.’He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.He must increase, but I must decrease.He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
