耶穌出來，照他的習慣往橄欖山去，門徒們也跟著他。到了那地方，耶穌對他們說：「你們要禱告，免得陷入試探。」然後他抽出身，離他們約有扔一塊石頭的距離，跪下禱告，說：「父啊，如果你願意，請把這杯從我這裡拿走吧！但不要成就我的意思，而要成就你的意思。」有一位天使從天上向他顯現，加添他的力量。耶穌在極大的痛苦中，禱告更加懇切；他的汗珠變得像大血滴，落在地上。禱告完了，他起身到門徒那裡，看見他們因為憂傷都睡著了，就對他們說：「你們為什麼睡覺呢？起來禱告，免得陷入試探。」

耶穌卻常常退到曠野去禱告。

基督在他肉身的日子裡，曾經用強烈的呼號和淚水，向能救他脫離死亡的那一位獻上了祈禱和懇求，就因著他的虔誠蒙了垂聽。

天亮的時候，耶穌出去，走到一個荒僻的地方。眾人尋找他，來到他那裡，想留住他，不讓他離開。但是耶穌對他們說：「我還必須到別的城去傳神國的福音，因為我是為此奉差派的。」

你們應當有這樣的意念，這也是基督耶穌的意念。

他遣散了人群以後，就獨自上山去禱告。到了晚上，只有他一個人在那裡。

耶和華啊，清晨你必聽我的聲音，清晨我向你陳明心意，切切守望！

耶穌對他們說：「我的食物就是遵行那派我來者的旨意，並且完成他的工作。

他們用控告來回報我的愛，但我不斷地禱告。
