耶稣出来，照他的习惯往橄榄山去，门徒们也跟着他。到了那地方，耶稣对他们说：“你们要祷告，免得陷入试探。”然后他抽出身，离他们约有扔一块石头的距离，跪下祷告，说：“父啊，如果你愿意，请把这杯从我这里拿走吧！但不要成就我的意思，而要成就你的意思。”有一位天使从天上向他显现，加添他的力量。耶稣在极大的痛苦中，祷告更加恳切；他的汗珠变得像大血滴，落在地上。祷告完了，他起身到门徒那里，看见他们因为忧伤都睡着了，就对他们说：“你们为什么睡觉呢？起来祷告，免得陷入试探。”

耶稣却常常退到旷野去祷告。

基督在他肉身的日子里，曾经用强烈的呼号和泪水，向能救他脱离死亡的那一位献上了祈祷和恳求，就因着他的虔诚蒙了垂听。

天亮的时候，耶稣出去，走到一个荒僻的地方。众人寻找他，来到他那里，想留住他，不让他离开。但是耶稣对他们说：“我还必须到别的城去传神国的福音，因为我是为此奉差派的。”

你们应当有这样的意念，这也是基督耶稣的意念。

他遣散了人群以后，就独自上山去祷告。到了晚上，只有他一个人在那里。

耶和华啊，清晨你必听我的声音，清晨我向你陈明心意，切切守望！

耶稣对他们说：“我的食物就是遵行那派我来者的旨意，并且完成他的工作。

他们用控告来回报我的爱，但我不断地祷告。
