在那些日子，有一次耶穌出去到山上禱告，整夜禱告神。

耶穌知道群眾要來強迫他作王，就獨自又退到山上去了。

耶穌照常到橄欖山去，門徒也跟著他。到了那裡，他對門徒說：“你們應當禱告，免得陷入試探。”於是耶穌離開他們約有扔一塊石頭那麼遠，跪下禱告說：“父啊，如果你願意，就把這杯拿走！但不要成就我的意思，只要成就你的旨意。”（有些抄本有第43、44節：“有一位天使從天上顯現，加給他力量。耶穌非常傷痛，禱告更加懇切，汗如大血點滴在地上。”）

耶穌卻退到曠野去禱告。

基督在世的時候，曾經流淚大聲禱告懇求那位能救他脫離死亡的神；因著他的敬虔，就蒙了應允。

天一亮，耶穌出來，到曠野地方去。眾人尋找他，一直找到他那裡，要留住他，不要他離開他們。他卻說：“我也必須到別的城去傳神國的福音，因為我是為了這緣故奉差遣的。”

你們應當有這樣的思想，這也是基督耶穌的思想。（全節或譯：“你們當以基督耶穌的心為心。”）

他解散了群眾，就獨自上山去禱告。到了晚上，他還是獨自一人在那裡。

耶和華啊！求你在清晨聽我的聲音；我要一早向你陳明，並且迫切等候。

耶穌說：“我的食物就是遵行差我來者的旨意，並且完成他的工作。

他們以敵對的態度來回報我的愛；至於我，我只有禱告。
