一天，耶稣到山上整夜向上帝祷告。

耶稣离开，像往常一样前往橄榄山，门徒也跟去了。到了山上，祂对门徒说：“你们要祷告，以免陷入诱惑！”然后，祂独自走到离门徒约有扔一块石头那么远的地方跪下祷告：“父啊，若你愿意，求你撤去此杯。然而，愿你的旨意成就，而非我的意愿。”有一位从天上来的天使向祂显现，给祂加添力量。祂心中极其悲痛，祷告更恳切，汗珠如血滴在地上。祂祷告完后，便起身回到门徒那里，看见他们因忧愁而疲惫地睡着了，就说：“你们为什么睡觉呢？要起来祷告，以免陷入诱惑！”

不过，祂还是常常退到旷野去祷告。

基督在世为人的时候，曾经声泪俱下地祈求能救祂脱离死亡的上帝。祂因为敬虔而蒙了应允。

黎明时，耶稣退到一处僻静的地方。众人四处找祂，找到后想留住祂，不让祂离开。但耶稣对他们说：“我必须把上帝国的福音传到其他的城镇去，因为我是为此而被差来的。”

你们应当有基督耶稣那样的心肠。

待众人都离开了，祂就独自上山去祷告，在那里一直待到晚上。

耶和华啊！早晨你听我的祷告。早晨我到你面前祈求，切切等候。

耶稣说：“我的食物就是遵行差我来者的旨意，完成祂的工作。
