耶穌在加利利海邊走走，看見弟兄二人，就是稱為彼得的西門、和他兄弟安得烈、撒網子在海裏；因為他們是漁夫。就對他們說：『來跟着我，我就使你們做得人的漁夫。』他們立刻撇下了網子，跟着他。從那裏往前走，他看見了另有兄弟二人，就是西庇太的兒子雅各、和他兄弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上、修整着網子，就呼召他們。他們立刻撇下了船和父親，來跟從耶穌。

從約翰聽見而跟從耶穌的那兩個人、一個是西門彼得的兄弟安得烈；這個人首先找着自己的哥哥西門，對他說：『我們遇見了彌賽亞了』，（「彌賽亞」翻譯出來就是上帝所膏立者「基督」）。就帶他到耶穌跟前。耶穌定睛看着他、就說：『你是約翰的兒子西門；你要稱為磯法』；「磯法」翻出來就是「彼得」、即係石頭。

門徒中有一個人、西門彼得的兄弟安得烈、就對耶穌說：

就是西門，他也稱他為彼得，還有他的兄弟安得烈、雅各和約翰、腓力和巴多羅買、

耶穌在革尼撒勒湖邊站着；羣眾擠他、要聽上帝的道；他看見兩隻船在湖邊停着；打魚的人卻離開了船，洗着網子。耶穌上了其中的一隻船、是西門的，請他划出去、稍微離岸。他就坐下，從船上教訓羣眾。停講的時候、耶穌對西門說：『划出去到深的地方，縋下網子去打魚。』西門回答說：『老師，我們整夜勞苦、沒有打着甚麼，如今靠着你的話、我要把網子縋下去。』他們這樣作，就圈住了一大羣魚；他們的網子幾乎要裂開了！便招呼那另一隻船的夥伴來協助他們。他們就來，裝滿了兩隻船，以致船幾乎要沉沒下去。西門彼得看見，就拜倒在耶穌膝前，說：『主啊，離開我，我是個罪人！』因了他們所捕得的這一次打的魚，驚訝便圍困了他、和所有同他在一起的人；西庇太的兒子、那跟西門作夥友的雅各約翰、也是這樣。耶穌對西門說：『別怕了，從今以後、你要活捉得人了。』他們把兩隻船攏了岸，就撇下一切，跟從耶穌。

又有安得烈、腓力、巴多羅買、馬太、多馬、亞勒腓的兒子雅各、和達太、以及熱心派的人西門、

他們一進城，就上了所寄住的房頂屋子；有彼得和約翰、雅各和安得烈、腓力和多馬、巴多羅買和馬太、亞勒腓的兒子雅各、和熱心派的人西門、以及雅各的兒子猶大。

他設立了那十二個人：給西門起名叫彼得；

腓力來告訴安得烈，安得烈和腓力就來告訴耶穌。

十二使徒的名字是這幾個：第一個是稱彼得的西門，還有他的兄弟安得烈、西庇太的兒子雅各、和雅各的兄弟約翰、
