The Spirit of the Lord God is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of our God’s vengeance; to comfort all who mourn,to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the Lord to glorify Him.

Then Jesus went to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness.

added this to everything else— he locked John up in prison.

“ This is John the Baptist!” he told his servants.“ He has been raised from the dead, and that’s why supernatural powers are at work in him.”

Soon afterward He was traveling from one town and village to another, preaching and telling the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with Him,

But He said to them,“ I must proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose.”And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him, and unrolling the scroll, He found the place where it was written:The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent a message by his disciples

“ And now I know that none of you will ever see my face again— everyone I went about preaching the kingdom to.

After this, Jesus and His disciples went to the Judean countryside, where He spent time with them and baptized.John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water there. People were coming and being baptized,since John had not yet been thrown into prison.

After arranging a day with him, many came to him at his lodging. From dawn to dusk he expounded and witnessed about the kingdom of God. He tried to persuade them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets.
