所以，他必須在各方面和他的弟兄們相同，為了要在神的事上，成為仁慈忠信的大祭司，好為人民贖罪。因為他自己既然經過試探，受了苦，就能夠幫助那些被試探的人。

但耶穌說：“撒但，走開！經上記著：‘當拜主你的神，單要事奉他。’”於是魔鬼離開了耶穌，有天使前來服事他。

他躺在那棵羅騰樹下，睡著了。忽然有一位天使拍他，說：“起來，吃吧！”他張眼一看，只見頭旁有用炭火烤的餅和一瓶水。他就起來吃喝，然後又躺下去。耶和華的使者第二次回來拍他，說：“起來吃吧！因為你要走的路程太遠了。”於是他起來吃喝，靠著那食物的力量，他走了四十晝夜，直走到神的山，就是何烈山。

敬虔的奧祕真偉大啊，這是眾人所公認的，就是：“他在肉身顯現，在聖靈裡稱義（“在聖靈裡稱義”或譯：“被聖靈稱義”），被天使看見；被傳於列國，被世人信服，被接到榮耀裡。”

為了你們所犯的一切罪，作了耶和華看為惡的事，惹他發怒，我就像先前那樣，俯伏在耶和華面前，四十晝夜，不吃不喝。

“因為耶和華說要消滅你們，我就俯伏在耶和華面前，共俯伏了四十晝夜。

過了四十晝夜，耶和華把那兩塊石版，就是約版，交給了我。
