Faithful people have disappeared from the land. Those who are honest are gone. Everyone hides and waits to spill the blood of others. They use nets to try and trap one another.

They spread a net for my feet— I was bowed down in distress. They dug a pit in my path— but they have fallen into it themselves.

Their quivers are like an open grave; all of them are mighty warriors.

The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad.Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy?

who build Zion with bloodshed, and Jerusalem with wickedness.

As it is written:“ There is no one righteous, not even one;there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”“ Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.”“ The poison of vipers is on their lips.”“ Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”“ Their feet are swift to shed blood;ruin and misery mark their ways,and the way of peace they do not know.”“ There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. See that there is nothing in my hand to indicate that I am guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I have not wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take my life.

Now do not let my blood fall to the ground far from the presence of the Lord. The king of Israel has come out to look for a flea— as one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”

The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.

“ But now I will send for many fishermen,” declares the Lord,“ and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks.

People stalked us at every step, so we could not walk in our streets. Our end was near, our days were numbered, for our end had come.
