Therefore, I have begun to destroy you, to ruin you because of your sins.

So also I will make you sick, striking you down, Making you desolate because of your sins.

“ Therefore I will also make you sick by striking you, By making you desolate because of your sins.

Therefore I also have smitten thee with a grievous wound; I have made thee desolate because of thy sins.

“ As a result, I have begun to strike you severely, bringing desolation because of your sins.

Therefore also will I make[ thee] sick in smiting thee, in making[ thee] desolate because of thy sins.

I will strike you brutally and destroy you because of your sin.

Therefore I also have struck you with a grievous wound. I have made you desolate because of your sins.

Why do you continue to invite punishment? Must you rebel forever? Your head is injured, and your heart is sick.You are battered from head to foot— covered with bruises, welts, and infected wounds— without any soothing ointments or bandages.Your country lies in ruins, and your towns are burned. Foreigners plunder your fields before your eyes and destroy everything they see.

“ He has sent fire from heaven that burns in my bones. He has placed a trap in my path and turned me back. He has left me devastated, racked with sickness all day long.

The people of Samaria must bear the consequences of their guilt because they rebelled against their God. They will be killed by an invading army, their little ones dashed to death against the ground, their pregnant women ripped open by swords.”

If I go out into the fields, I see the bodies of people slaughtered by the enemy. If I walk the city streets, I see people who have died of starvation. The prophets and priests continue with their work, but they don’t know what they’re doing.”

Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.

I will punish you. I will bring sudden terrors upon you— wasting diseases and burning fevers that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will plant your crops in vain because your enemies will eat them.

“ Or God disciplines people with pain on their sickbeds, with ceaseless aching in their bones.They lose their appetite for even the most delicious food.Their flesh wastes away, and their bones stick out.They are at death’s door; the angels of death wait for them.
