Am I still to forget your ill- gotten treasures, you wicked house, and the short ephah, which is accursed?

You sinful people, should I forget that you got your treasures by stealing them? You use dishonest measures to cheat others. I have placed a curse on that practice.

Can I forget any longer the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed?

What shall I say about the homes of the wicked filled with treasures gained by cheating? What about the disgusting practice of measuring out grain with dishonest measures?

Are there still the treasures of wickedness and the accursed short measure in the house of the wicked?

Is there still a person in the wicked house, Along with treasures of wickedness, And a short measure that is cursed?

Are there yet the treasures of wickedness In the house of the wicked, And the short measure that is an abomination?

Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a scant measure that is abominable?

Are there still the treasures of wickedness and the accursed short measure in the house of the wicked?

“ They do not know how to do what is right.”( The LORD is speaking.)“ They store up the spoils of destructive violence in their fortresses.

You say,“ When will the new moon festival be over, so we can sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, so we can open up the grain bins? We’re eager to sell less for a higher price, and to cheat the buyer with rigged scales!We’re eager to trade silver for the poor, a pair of sandals for the needy! We want to mix in some chaff with the grain!”

“ Indeed, there are wicked scoundrels among my people. They lie in wait like bird catchers hiding in ambush. They set deadly traps to catch people.Like a cage filled with the birds that have been caught, their houses are filled with the gains of their fraud and deceit. That is how they have gotten so rich and powerful.

Diverse weights and diverse measures– the LORD abhors both of them.

The Lord abhors dishonest scales, but an accurate weight is his delight.

You must not do injustice in the regulation of measures, whether of length, weight, or volume.You must have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin. I am the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

Making a fortune by a lying tongue is like a vapor driven back and forth; they seek death.

You must not have in your bag different stone weights, a heavy and a light one.You must not have in your house different measuring containers, a large and a small one.You must have an accurate and correct stone weight and an accurate and correct measuring container, so that your life may be extended in the land the LORD your God is about to give you.For anyone who acts dishonestly in these ways is abhorrent to the LORD your God.

Naaman said,“ Please accept two talents of silver. He insisted, and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, along with two suits of clothes. He gave them to two of his servants and they carried them for Gehazi.When he arrived at the hill, he took them from the servants and put them in the house. Then he sent the men on their way.

“‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: Enough, you princes of Israel! Put away violence and destruction, and do what is just and right. Put an end to your evictions of my people, declares the sovereign LORD.You must use just balances, a just dry measure( an ephah), and a just liquid measure( a bath).The dry and liquid measures will be the same, the bath will contain a tenth of a homer, and the ephah a tenth of a homer; the homer will be the standard measure.The shekel will be twenty gerahs. Sixty shekels will be a mina for you.

Indeed, wine will betray the proud, restless man! His appetite is as big as Sheol’s; like death, he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations; he seizes all peoples.“ But all these nations will someday taunt him and ridicule him with proverbial sayings:‘ The one who accumulates what does not belong to him is as good as dead( How long will this go on?)– he who gets rich by extortion!’Your creditors will suddenly attack; those who terrify you will spring into action, and they will rob you.Because you robbed many countries, all who are left among the nations will rob you. You have shed human blood and committed violent acts against lands, cities, and those who live in them.The one who builds his house by unjust gain is as good as dead. He does this so he can build his nest way up high and escape the clutches of disaster.Your schemes will bring shame to your house. Because you destroyed many nations, you will self-destruct.For the stones in the walls will cry out, and the wooden rafters will answer back.

On that day I will punish all who leap over the threshold, who fill the house of their master with wealth taken by violence and deceit.

The speaker went on to say,“ This is a curse traveling across the whole earth. For example, according to the curse whoever steals will be removed from the community; or on the other hand( according to the curse) whoever swears falsely will suffer the same fate.”“ I will send it out,” says the LORD who rules over all,“ and it will enter the house of the thief and of the person who swears falsely in my name. It will land in the middle of his house and destroy both timber and stones.”

The LORD abhors differing weights, and dishonest scales are wicked.

The businessmen love to cheat; they use dishonest scales.Ephraim boasts,“ I am very rich! I have become wealthy! In all that I have done to gain my wealth, no one can accuse me of any offense that is actually sinful.”

Come now, you rich! Weep and cry aloud over the miseries that are coming on you.Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth- eaten.Your gold and silver have rusted and their rust will be a witness against you. It will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have hoarded treasure!Look, the pay you have held back from the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.

Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from mortal danger.

But the Israelites disobeyed the command about the city’s riches. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, stole some of the riches. The LORD was furious with the Israelites.
