亞述人侵伐我地、蹂躪我境、彼必以鋒刃攻亞述之國、寧綠之境、以免我民於患難。

必以鋒刃攻亞述地、以戈矛伐寧綠國、亞述人如入我地、履我境、彼必救我脫於其難、

who will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrians when they invade our land and march across our borders.

They will use their swords to rule over Assyria. They’ll rule the land of Nimrod with swords that are ready to strike. The Assyrians will march across our borders and attack our land. But the promised ruler will save us from them.

they shall shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod at its entrances; and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he comes into our land and treads within our border.

They will rule Assyria with drawn swords and enter the gates of the land of Nimrod. He will rescue us from the Assyrians when they pour over the borders to invade our land.

古實也是寧錄之父，寧錄是世上第一位勇士，在耶和華眼中是個孔武有力的獵人，因此有俗話說：「要像寧錄那樣在耶和華眼中是個孔武有力的獵人。」他首先在示拿地區的巴別、以力、亞甲、甲尼各地建國，後來擴展到亞述，在那裡建立了尼尼微、利河伯、迦拉各城，

以色列王比加執政期間，亞述王提革拉·毗列色來犯，奪取了以雲、亞伯·伯·瑪迦、亞挪、基低斯和夏瑣，佔領了基列、加利利及拿弗他利全境，把那裡的居民擄往亞述。

「至於亞述王，耶和華說，『他必不能進這城或向這裡射一箭，必不能手持盾牌兵臨城下或修築攻城的高臺。他從哪條路來，也將從哪條路回去，他必進不了這城。這是耶和華說的。我必為自己和我僕人大衛而保護、拯救這城。』」當晚，耶和華的天使到亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。人們清早起來，發現到處是屍體。

希西迦執政第四年，即以拉的兒子以色列王何細亞執政第七年，亞述王撒縵以色起兵攻打撒瑪利亞城，將城包圍。三年之後，就是希西迦執政第六年，以色列王何細亞執政第九年，撒瑪利亞失陷。亞述王把以色列人擄到亞述，將他們安置在哈臘、歌散的哈博河一帶以及瑪代人的城邑裡。這都是因為以色列人沒有聽從他們的上帝耶和華，違背了祂的約，不遵行祂僕人摩西所吩咐的一切。希西迦王執政第十四年，亞述王西拿基立起兵攻取了猶大所有的堅城。希西迦王差遣使者去拉吉見亞述王說：「我知罪了，求你退兵！我願意滿足你的任何要求。」亞述王向希西迦索要十噸銀子和一噸金子。希西迦將耶和華殿裡和王宮庫房裡的所有銀子都給了他，

如今那獅子的洞穴，那餵養壯獅的地方在哪裡呢？從前，雄獅、母獅和幼獅曾在那裡出入，無人驚擾。雄獅為幼獅撕碎充足的食物，為母獅掐死獵物，洞穴裡堆滿獵物，堆滿撕碎的肉。萬軍之耶和華說：「我要與你為敵，燒毀你的戰車，使刀劍吞噬你的壯獅；我要使你無法再擄掠他國，你使者的聲音將從此消逝。」充滿血腥的尼尼微有禍了！城中充滿詭詐和暴力，害人的事從未止息。鞭聲啪啪，車輪隆隆，戰馬奔騰，戰車疾馳，騎士衝鋒，刀光閃閃，矛槍生輝；被殺者眾多，屍骨成堆，人們被遍地的屍體絆倒。

祂要從仇敵和一切恨我們之人手中拯救我們。

各國必幫助他們重返故鄉。在耶和華賜給他們的土地上，外族人必做他們的僕婢。他們必擄掠以前擄掠他們的人，統治以前壓制他們的人。

亞述王撒縵以色攻打以色列，何細亞納貢稱臣。然而，何細亞差遣使者向埃及王梭求援，不再像往年那樣向亞述王進貢。亞述王發現後，把他抓起來囚在獄中。亞述王攻打以色列全境，並圍困撒瑪利亞三年。

你們這些毀滅別人、自己還未被毀滅的人有禍了！等你們毀滅完了，就毀滅你們。你們這些欺詐別人、自己還未被欺詐的人有禍了！等你們欺詐完了，就欺詐你們。

所以，耶和華就差遣亞述王的將領來攻擊他們，他們捉住瑪拿西，用鉤子鉤著他，用銅鏈鎖著他押往巴比倫。

要把我們從仇敵手中拯救出來，

耶和華說：「亞述王有禍了！他是我的憤怒之棍，他手中拿著我發烈怒的杖。我要差遣他去攻打一個不虔敬的國家，一個惹我發怒的民族，去搶奪、擄掠他們的財物，像踐踏街上的泥土一樣踐踏他們。可是他卻不這樣想，心裡也不這樣盤算，他只想毀滅許多國家。他說，『我的臣僕都要做藩王！迦勒挪豈不是和迦基米施一樣嗎？哈馬豈不是和亞珥拔一樣嗎？撒瑪利亞豈不是和大馬士革一樣嗎？它們不是都被我征服了嗎？這些國家都在我的手中，他們雕刻的偶像不勝過耶路撒冷和撒瑪利亞的偶像嗎？我怎樣毀滅撒瑪利亞和它的偶像，也必怎樣毀滅耶路撒冷和它的偶像。』」主完成在錫安山和耶路撒冷要做的事後，必懲罰心裡狂妄、眼目高傲的亞述王。

祂必伸手攻擊北方，毀滅亞述，使尼尼微一片荒涼，如乾旱的曠野。
