Let them stand up and save you from what the future holds.But they are like straw burning in a fire; they cannot save themselves from the flame. You will get no help from them at all; their hearth is no place to sit for warmth.

Groan silently, but let there be no wailing at her grave. Do not uncover your head or take off your sandals. Do not perform the usual rituals of mourning or accept any food brought to you by consoling friends.”

So Saul asked God,“ Should we go after the Philistines? Will you help us defeat them?” But God made no reply that day.

We no longer see your miraculous signs. All the prophets are gone, and no one can tell us when it will end.

“ Why have you disturbed me by calling me back?” Samuel asked Saul.“ Because I am in deep trouble,” Saul replied.“ The Philistines are at war with me, and God has left me and won’t reply by prophets or dreams. So I have called for you to tell me what to do.”

Pharaoh’s magicians tried to do the same thing with their secret arts, but this time they failed. ‘ If you don’t tell me the dream, you are doomed.’ So you have conspired to tell me lies, hoping I will change my mind. But tell me the dream, and then I’ll know that you can tell me what it means.”The astrologers replied to the king,“ No one on earth can tell the king his dream! And no king, however great and powerful, has ever asked such a thing of any magician, enchanter, or astrologer!The king’s demand is impossible. No one except the gods can tell you your dream, and they do not live here among people.”
