Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say,“ Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us.”

Your judges take money from people who want special favors. Your priests teach only if they get paid for it. Your prophets won’t tell fortunes unless they receive money. But you still look for the Lord’ s help. You say,“ The Lord is with us. No trouble will come on us.”

Its heads give judgment for a bribe; its priests teach for a price; its prophets practice divination for money; yet they lean on the Lord and say,“ Is not the Lord in the midst of us? No disaster shall come upon us.”

You rulers make decisions based on bribes; you priests teach God’s laws only for a price; you prophets won’t prophesy unless you are paid. Yet all of you claim to depend on the Lord.“ No harm can come to us,” you say,“ for the Lord is here among us.”

Her leaders take bribes when they decide legal cases, her priests proclaim rulings for profit, and her prophets read omens for pay. Yet they claim to trust the LORD and say,“ The LORD is among us. Disaster will not overtake us!”

Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They don’t defend the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

“ For from their least even to their greatest, everyone is given to covetousness. From the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely.

Yahweh says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray; for those who feed their teeth, they proclaim,“ Peace!” and whoever doesn’t provide for their mouths, they prepare war against him:

Don’t trust in lying words, saying,‘ Yahweh’s temple, Yahweh’s temple, Yahweh’s temple, are these.’

for they call themselves citizens of the holy city, and rely on the God of Israel; Yahweh of Armies is his name.

Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;

whose mouths must be stopped: men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain’s sake.

His sons didn’t walk in his ways, but turned away after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.

Here I am. Witness against me before Yahweh, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who will possess them. For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.

not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

having eyes full of adultery, and who can’t cease from sin; enticing unsettled souls; having a heart trained in greed; children of cursing;forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of wrongdoing;

All the sinners of my people will die by the sword, who say,‘ Evil won’t overtake nor meet us.’

Woe to them! For they went in the way of Cain, and ran riotously in the error of Balaam for hire, and perished in Korah’s rebellion.

Their drink has become sour. They play the prostitute continually. Her rulers dearly love their shameful way.

When the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said,“ Why has Yahweh defeated us today before the Philistines? Let’s get the ark of Yahweh’s covenant out of Shiloh and bring it to us, that it may come among us and save us out of the hand of our enemies.”So the people sent to Shiloh, and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh of Armies, who sits above the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.When the ark of Yahweh’s covenant came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth resounded.When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said,“ What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” They understood that Yahweh’s ark had come into the camp.

But false prophets also arose among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.Many will follow their immoral ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned.In covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words: whose sentence now from of old doesn’t linger, and their destruction will not slumber.

Yes, the dogs are greedy. They can never have enough. They are shepherds who can’t understand. They have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

Indeed you bear the name of a Jew, rest on the law, glory in God,know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law,and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth.You therefore who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach that a man shouldn’t steal, do you steal?You who say a man shouldn’t commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?You who glory in the law, do you dishonor God by disobeying the law?For“ the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” just as it is written.For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.If therefore the uncircumcised keep the ordinances of the law, won’t his uncircumcision be accounted as circumcision?Won’t the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law?For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh;but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.

“ Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies,“ neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

Don’t think to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Behold, you trust in lying words that can’t profit.Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say,‘ We are delivered;’ that you may do all these abominations?Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it,” says Yahweh.“ But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

Her princes within her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing until the next day.

In you have they taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,” says the Lord Yahweh.

Her princes within it are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.
