Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say,“ Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us.”

Your judges take money from people who want special favors. Your priests teach only if they get paid for it. Your prophets won’t tell fortunes unless they receive money. But you still look for the Lord’ s help. You say,“ The Lord is with us. No trouble will come on us.”

Your rulers are rebels, friends of thieves. They all love graft and chase after bribes. They do not defend the rights of the fatherless, and the widow’s case never comes before them.

For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.

This is what the LORD says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who proclaim peace when they have food to sink their teeth into but declare war against the one who puts nothing in their mouths.

Do not trust deceitful words, chanting,“ This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD.”

For they are named after the holy city, and lean on the God of Israel; his name is the LORD of Armies.

Both hands are good at accomplishing evil: the official and the judge demand a bribe; when the powerful man communicates his evil desire, they plot it together.

Shepherd God’s flock among you, not overseeing out of compulsion but willingly, as God would have you; not out of greed for money but eagerly;

When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,saying,“ Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”But Peter told him,“ May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!

It is necessary to silence them; they are ruining entire households by teaching what they shouldn’t in order to get money dishonestly.

However, his sons did not walk in his ways— they turned toward dishonest profit, took bribes, and perverted justice.

Here I am. Bring charges against me before the LORD and his anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Who have I wronged or mistreated? Who gave me a bribe to overlook something? Therefore, I will give their wives to other men, their fields to new occupants, for from the least to the greatest, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.

not an excessive drinker, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy.

They have eyes full of adultery that never stop looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!They have gone astray by abandoning the straight path and have followed the path of Balaam, the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickedness

All the sinners among my people who say,“ Disaster will never overtake or confront us,” will die by the sword.

Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, have plunged into Balaam’s error for profit, and have perished in Korah’s rebellion.

There were indeed false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law, and boast in God,and know his will, and approve the things that are superior, being instructed from the law,and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness,an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of the immature, having the embodiment of knowledge and truth in the law—you then, who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach,“ You must not steal”— do you steal?You who say,“ You must not commit adultery”— do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob temples?You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?For, as it is written: The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.Circumcision benefits you if you observe the law, but if you are a lawbreaker, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.So if an uncircumcised man keeps the law’s requirements, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision?A man who is physically uncircumcised, but who keeps the law, will judge you who are a lawbreaker in spite of having the letter of the law and circumcision.For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, and true circumcision is not something visible in the flesh.On the contrary, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart— by the Spirit, not the letter. That person’s praise is not from people but from God.

“ I wish one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would no longer kindle a useless fire on my altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the LORD of Armies,“ and I will accept no offering from your hands.

And don’t presume to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.

But look, you keep trusting in deceitful words that cannot help.“‘ Do you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known?Then do you come and stand before me in this house that bears my name and say,“ We are rescued, so we can continue doing all these detestable acts”?Has this house, which bears my name, become a den of robbers in your view? The princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the night, which leave nothing for the morning.

People who live in you accept bribes in order to shed blood. You take interest and profit on a loan and brutally extort your neighbors. You have forgotten me. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.
