But the people continued acting corruptly.He built the upper gate of the house of the Lord, and he built the wall of Ophel extensively.Moreover, he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and he built fortresses and towers on the wooded hills.He fought with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed over them so that during that year the Ammonites gave him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand kors of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. The Ammonites also paid him this amount in the second year and in the third.So Jotham became powerful because he directed his ways before the Lord his God.Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, all his wars and his ways, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.He was twenty five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for sixteen years.And Jotham lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and his son Ahaz became king in his place.

Therefore you will give parting gifts In behalf of Moresheth gath; The houses of Achzib will become a deception To the kings of Israel.Moreover, I will bring on you The one who takes possession, You inhabitant of Mareshah. The glory of Israel will enter Adullam.

Sound an alarm at Beth aven:“ Behind you, Benjamin!”Ephraim will become a desolation in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I make known what is trustworthy.The leaders of Judah have become like those who displace a boundary marker; On them I will pour out My anger like water.Ephraim is oppressed, broken by judgment, Because he was determined to follow man’s command.Therefore I am like a moth to Ephraim, And like rottenness to the house of Judah.When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah his sore, Ephraim then went to Assyria And sent word to King Jareb. But he is unable to heal you, Or to cure you of your sore.For I will be like a lion to Ephraim And like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, yes I, will tear to pieces and go away, I will carry away, and there will be no one to rescue.

Woe to those who are carefree in Zion, And to those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria, The dignitaries of the foremost of nations, To whom the house of Israel comes.

Ephraim feeds on wind, And pursues the east wind continually; He multiplies lies and violence. Moreover, he makes a covenant with Assyria, And oil is brought to Egypt.The Lord also has a case against Judah, And will punish Jacob according to his ways; He will repay him according to his deeds.

For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; And Judah has multiplied fortified cities, But I will send a fire on its cities, and it will consume its palatial buildings.

In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing; Ephraim’s infidelity is there, Israel has defiled itself.Also, Judah, there is a harvest appointed for you, When I restore the fortunes of My people.

Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, Judah must not become guilty; Also you are not to go to Gilgal, Nor go up to Beth aven And take the oath:“ As the Lord lives!”

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they rejected the Law of the Lord And have not kept His statutes; Their lies also have led them astray, Those which their fathers followed.So I will send fire upon Judah, And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for money, And the needy for a pair of sandals.These who trample the head of the helpless to the dust of the earth Also divert the way of the humble; And a man and his father resort to the same girl So as to profane My holy name.And on garments seized as pledges they stretch out beside every altar, And in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.

All this is due to the wrongdoing of Jacob And the sins of the house of Israel. What is the wrongdoing of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? What is the high place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?

Hear this word which the Lord has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire family which He brought up from the land of Egypt:“ You only have I known among all the families of the earth; Therefore I will punish you for all your wrongdoing.”
