And he said to him,“ Follow me.”And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them.And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying,“ Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”And Jesus answered them,“ Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”And they said to him,“ The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.”And Jesus said to them,“ Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.”He also told them a parable:“ No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed.But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.

And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him,“ Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples,“ Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”And when Jesus heard it, he said to them,“ Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. And people came and said to him,“ Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”And Jesus said to them,“ Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made.And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins— and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”

And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich.And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature.So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way.And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him,“ Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.”So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully.And when they saw it, they all grumbled,“ He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord,“ Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.”And Jesus said to him,“ Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon( who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.And he said to them,“ Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”Immediately they left their nets and followed him.And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James.

So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him.And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said,“ Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him,“ Go back again, for what have I done to you?”And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.

Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying,“ This man receives sinners and eats with them.”

was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone;

Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said,“ The first.” Jesus said to them,“ Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.
