Then Jesus said to him,“ Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”The man was healed right away. He picked up his mat and walked. This happened on a Sabbath day.So the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed,“ It is the Sabbath day. The law does not allow you to carry your mat.”But he replied,“ The one who made me well said to me,‘ Pick up your mat and walk.’ ”They asked him,“ Who is this fellow? Who told you to pick it up and walk?”The one who was healed had no idea who it was. Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.Later Jesus found him at the temple. Jesus said to him,“ See, you are well again. Stop sinning, or something worse may happen to you.”

Is it easier to say to this man,‘ Your sins are forgiven’? Or to say,‘ Get up, take your mat and walk’?But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So Jesus spoke to the man who could not walk.“ I tell you,” he said,“ get up. Take your mat and go home.”The man got up and took his mat. Then he walked away while everyone watched. All the people were amazed. They praised God and said,“ We have never seen anything like this!”

This man whom you see and know was made strong because of faith in Jesus’ name. Faith in Jesus has healed him completely. You can see it with your own eyes.

Or to say,‘ Get up and walk’?But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he spoke to the man who could not walk.“ I tell you,” he said,“ get up. Take your mat and go home.”Right away, the man stood up in front of them. He took his mat and went home praising God.

Peter said,“ I don’t have any silver or gold. But I’ll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.”Then Peter took him by the right hand and helped him up. At once the man’s feet and ankles became strong.He jumped to his feet and began to walk. He went with Peter and John into the temple courtyards. He walked and jumped and praised God.All the people saw him walking and praising God.They recognized him as the same man who used to sit and beg at the temple gate called Beautiful. They were filled with wonder. They were amazed at what had happened to him.The man was holding on to Peter and John. All the people were amazed. They came running to them at the place called Solomon’s Porch.

Then the eyes of those who are blind will be opened. The ears of those who can’t hear will be unplugged.Those who can’t walk will leap like a deer. And those who can’t speak will shout for joy. Water will pour out in dry places. Streams will flow in the desert.

In Lystra there sat a man who couldn’t walk. He hadn’t been able to use his feet since the day he was born.He listened as Paul spoke. Paul looked right at him. He saw that the man had faith to be healed.So he called out,“ Stand up on your feet!” Then the man jumped up and began to walk.The crowd saw what Paul had done. They shouted in the Lycaonian language.“ The gods have come down to us in human form!” they exclaimed.

“ Aeneas,” Peter said to him,“ Jesus Christ heals you. Get up! Roll up your mat!” So Aeneas got up right away.

Jesus defended himself. He said to them,“ My Father is always doing his work. He is working right up to this day. I am working too.”For this reason the Jewish leaders tried even harder to kill him. According to them, Jesus was not only breaking the law of the Sabbath day. He was even calling God his own Father. He was making himself equal with God.

Are you asking us to explain our actions today? Do you want to know why we were kind to a man who couldn’t walk? Are you asking how he was healed?Then listen to this, you and all the people of Israel! You nailed Jesus Christ of Nazareth to the cross. But God raised him from the dead. It is through Jesus’ name that this man stands healed in front of you.
