When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,

When Jesus came to the leader’s house, He saw the flute players and a crowd lamenting loudly.

And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

When Jesus entered the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the disorderly crowd,

When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder,

Jeremiah composed laments for Josiah, and to this day all the male and female singers commemorate Josiah in the laments. These became a tradition in Israel and are written in the Laments. (niv)

While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.“ Your daughter is dead,” they said.“ Why bother the teacher anymore?”Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him,“ Don’t be afraid; just believe.”He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.He went in and said to them,“ Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. (niv)

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.“ Your daughter is dead,” he said.“ Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus,“ Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. (niv)

While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said,“ My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. (niv)

They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:“‘ We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’ (niv)

Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. (niv)

This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Consider now! Call for the wailing women to come; send for the most skillful of them.Let them come quickly and wail over us till our eyes overflow with tears and water streams from our eyelids.The sound of wailing is heard from Zion:‘ How ruined we are! How great is our shame! We must leave our land because our houses are in ruins.’”Now, you women, hear the word of the Lord; open your ears to the words of his mouth. Teach your daughters how to wail; teach one another a lament. (niv)
