When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,

When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing,

And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute- players, and the crowd making a tumult,

When Jesus came to the leader’s house, He saw the flute players and a crowd lamenting loudly.

And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

When Jesus entered the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the disorderly crowd,

When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder,

Jeremiah also uttered a lament for Josiah; and all the singing men and singing women have spoken of Josiah in their laments to this day. They made these a rule in Israel; behold, they are written in the Laments.

While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler’s house some who said,“ Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue,“ Do not fear, only believe.”And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly.And when he had entered, he said to them,“ Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.”And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was.

While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler’s house came and said,“ Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.”But Jesus on hearing this answered him,“ Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well.”And when he came to the house, he allowed no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child.

While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying,“ My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples.

They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another,“‘ We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’

“‘ We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’

So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.

Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Consider, and call for the mourning women to come; send for the skillful women to come;let them make haste and raise a wailing over us, that our eyes may run down with tears and our eyelids flow with water.For a sound of wailing is heard from Zion:‘ How we are ruined! We are utterly shamed, because we have left the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.’”Hear, O women, the word of the Lord, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; teach to your daughters a lament, and each to her neighbor a dirge.
