時有如望之徒晉謁曰：『吾儕及法利塞人恆齋、爾徒獨不齋何也？』

Then John’s disciples came and asked him,“ How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day John’s disciples came. They said to Jesus,“ We and the Pharisees often go without eating. Why don’t your disciples go without eating?”

Then the disciples of John came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples fast like we do and the Pharisees do?”

Then John’s disciples came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

Then the disciples of John* came to Him, asking,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

当下，约翰的门徒和法利赛人禁食。他们来问耶稣说：“约翰的门徒和法利赛人的门徒禁食，你的门徒倒不禁食，这是为什么呢？”耶稣对他们说：“新郎和陪伴之人同在的时候，陪伴之人岂能禁食呢？新郎还同在，他们不能禁食。但日子将到，新郎要离开他们，那日他们就要禁食。没有人把新布缝在旧衣服上，恐怕所补上的新布带坏了旧衣服，破的就更大了。也没有人把新酒装在旧皮袋里，恐怕酒把皮袋裂开，酒和皮袋就都坏了；惟把新酒装在新皮袋里。”

他们说：“约翰的门徒屡次禁食祈祷，法利赛人的门徒也是这样；惟独你的门徒又吃又喝。”耶稣对他们说：“新郎和陪伴之人同在的时候，岂能叫陪伴之人禁食呢？但日子将到，新郎要离开他们，那日他们就要禁食了。”耶稣又设一个比喻，对他们说：“没有人把新衣服撕下一块来补在旧衣服上；若是这样，就把新的撕破了，并且所撕下来的那块新的和旧的也不相称。也没有人把新酒装在旧皮袋里；若是这样，新酒必将皮袋裂开，酒便漏出来，皮袋也就坏了。但新酒必须装在新皮袋里。没有人喝了陈酒又想喝新的；他总说陈的好。”

“你们禁食的时候，不可像那假冒为善的人，脸上带着愁容；因为他们把脸弄得难看，故意叫人看出他们是禁食。我实在告诉你们，他们已经得了他们的赏赐。

约翰来了，也不吃也不喝，人就说他是被鬼附着的；人子来了，也吃也喝，人又说他是贪食好酒的人，是税吏和罪人的朋友。但智慧之子总以智慧为是。”

耶稣向那些仗着自己是义人，藐视别人的，设一个比喻，说：“有两个人上殿里去祷告：一个是法利赛人，一个是税吏。法利赛人站着，自言自语地祷告说：‘神啊，我感谢你，我不像别人勒索、不义、奸淫，也不像这个税吏。我一个礼拜禁食两次，凡我所得的都捐上十分之一。’

约翰的门徒和一个犹太人辩论洁净的礼，

人多述说自己的仁慈，但忠信人谁能遇着呢？

约翰在监里听见基督所做的事，就打发两个门徒去，
