随后，约翰的门徒们前来问耶稣：“为什么我们和法利赛人经常禁食，而你的门徒们却不禁食呢？”

那時約翰的門徒上前來見耶穌說：『我們和法利賽人都禁食，你的門徒卻不禁食，為甚麼呢？』

隨後，約翰的門徒們前來問耶穌：「為什麼我們和法利賽人經常禁食，而你的門徒們卻不禁食呢？」

時、約翰之門徒至、曰、我與法利賽人數禁食、惟爾門徒不禁食、何也、

約翰之門徒就耶穌曰、我與𠵽唎㘔人、往往禁食、惟爾門徒不禁食、何也、

時約翰之門徒就耶穌曰、我儕與法利賽人、往往禁食、爾門徒不禁食、何也、

時有如望之徒晉謁曰：『吾儕及法利塞人恆齋、爾徒獨不齋何也？』

Then John’s disciples came and asked him,“ How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day John’s disciples came. They said to Jesus,“ We and the Pharisees often go without eating. Why don’t your disciples go without eating?”

Then the disciples of John came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”

One day the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples fast like we do and the Pharisees do?”

Then the disciples of John* came to Him, asking,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”

Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

Then John’s disciples came to Him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”

Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

Then John’s disciples came to Jesus and asked,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”

Then John’s disciples came to him, saying,“ Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”

Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. People came and asked him,“ Why do John’s disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but your disciples do not fast?”Jesus said to them,“ The wedding guests cannot fast while the groom is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast.But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new patch pulls away from the old cloth, and a worse tear is made.And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost as well as the skins. No, new wine is put into fresh wineskins.”

Then they said to him,“ John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink.”Jesus said to them,“ You can’t make the wedding guests fast while the groom is with them, can you?But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them— then they will fast in those days.”He also told them a parable:“ No one tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise, not only will he tear the new, but also the piece from the new garment will not match the old.And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, it will spill, and the skins will be ruined.No, new wine is put into fresh wineskins.And no one, after drinking old wine, wants new, because he says,‘ The old is better.’”

“ Whenever you fast, don’t be gloomy like the hypocrites. For they disfigure their faces so that their fasting is obvious to people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say,‘ He has a demon!’The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say,‘ Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else:“ Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.The Pharisee was standing and praying like this about himself:‘ God, I thank you that I’m not like other people— greedy, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.’

Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples and a Jew about purification.

Many a person proclaims his own loyalty, but who can find a trustworthy person?
