Doing what is righteous and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

What should I bring before the LORD when I come to bow before God on high? Should I come before him with burnt offerings, with year-old calves?Would the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams or with ten thousand streams of oil? Should I give my firstborn for my transgression, the offspring of my body for my own sin?Mankind, he has told each of you what is good and what it is the LORD requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.

“ What do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said,‘ My son, go work in the vineyard today.’“ He answered,‘ I don’t want to,’ but later he changed his mind and went.Then the man went to the other and said the same thing.‘ I will, sir,’ he answered, but he didn’t go.Which of the two did his father’s will?” They said,“ The first.” Jesus said to them,“ Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.

When they heard this they became silent. And they glorified God, saying,“ So then, God has given repentance resulting in life even to the Gentiles.”

Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? There is no one who does what is good, not even one.Their throat is an open grave; they deceive with their tongues. Vipers’ venom is under their lips.Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.Their feet are swift to shed blood;ruin and wretchedness are in their paths,and the path of peace they have not known.There is no fear of God before their eyes.Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, attested by the Law and the Prophets.The righteousness of God is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, since there is no distinction.For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Or do you despise the riches of his kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?Because of your hardened and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed.He will repay each one according to his works:

“ See to it that you don’t despise one of these little ones, because I tell you that in heaven their angels continually view the face of my Father in heaven.

Seek the LORD while he may be found; call to him while he is near.Let the wicked one abandon his way and the sinful one his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, so he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will freely forgive.

God exalted this man to his right hand as ruler and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Peter replied,“ Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

He said to them,“ Haven’t you read what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry:

From then on Jesus began to preach,“ Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is what the Lord has done and it is wonderful in our eyes?

instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth.Then they may come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance.
