有些法利賽派的經文士見耶穌與罪人和稅吏一起吃飯，就對耶穌的門徒們說：「他怎麼與那些稅吏和罪人一起吃飯呢？」

當時，稅吏和罪人都接近耶穌，聽他講說。法利賽人和經文士抱怨，說：「這個人歡迎罪人，又與他們一起吃飯。」

我以前在書信上給你們寫過：不可與淫亂的人交往。我當然不是指這世上淫亂的、或貪心的、或勒索人的、或拜偶像的，否則，你們就必須離開這個世界了。但如今我寫給你們的是：如果有人被稱為弟兄，卻是淫亂的、或貪心的、或拜偶像的、或誹謗人的、或酗酒的、或勒索人的，你們不可與他交往，連與這樣的人一起吃飯都不可。

我們生來是猶太人，不是「外邦中的罪人」，

他能體諒那些不明白而被迷惑的人，因為他自己也被軟弱所困。

大家看見，就抱怨說：「他竟然到一個罪人家裡去借宿。」

他們說：『你就站在那裡，不要接近我，因為我比你聖潔。』這些就是我鼻孔中的煙，是終日燃燒的火。

他們回到其他的門徒那裡，看見一大群人圍著他們，而且有幾個經文士正在和他們辯論。眾人一見耶穌，都大吃一驚，就跑過去歡迎他。耶穌問：「你們和他們在辯論什麼？」
