我們知道上帝不聽罪人的禱告，只聽那些敬拜祂、遵行祂旨意者的禱告。

儘管我從前是個褻瀆上帝、迫害和侮辱信徒的人，但我仍然蒙了憐憫，因為那時我無知，還沒有信耶穌。主賜給我豐富的恩典，使我在基督耶穌裡有信心和愛心。有句話千真萬確、完全可信，就是「基督耶穌降世，為要拯救罪人。」在罪人中我是個罪魁，但我依然蒙了憐憫，因為耶穌基督要在我這個罪魁身上彰顯祂無限的忍耐，使我做那些要信靠祂並得到永生之人的榜樣。

如果你們只愛那些愛你們的人，有什麼值得嘉獎的呢？就是稅吏也會這樣做。如果你們只問候自己的弟兄，有什麼特別呢？就是外族人也會這樣做。
