他们渡过加利利湖，到了格拉森地区。耶稣上岸后，迎面遇见当地一个被鬼附身的人。那人长期赤身露体，不住在房屋里，只住在墓穴中。他一见到耶稣，就扑倒在祂面前，高声喊叫：“至高上帝的儿子耶稣，我和你有什么关系？求求你，不要折磨我！”这是因为耶稣已命令污鬼离开那人。那人多次被污鬼操纵，人们用铁链脚镣把他锁起来看管，他竟把锁链也扯断，被鬼催逼到荒野。耶稣问他：“你叫什么名字？”他说：“我叫‘群’。”因为有一大群鬼附在那人身上。鬼不断央求耶稣不要叫它们到无底坑去。当时有一大群猪在附近山坡上觅食，污鬼就央求耶稣准许它们进入猪群，耶稣答应了。于是那群鬼便离开那人，进入猪群。那群猪就一路奔下陡坡，冲进湖里淹死了。放猪的人见此情形拔腿就跑，把这事告诉了城里和乡下的人。人们出来看个究竟，到了耶稣那里，发现那曾被鬼附身的人衣着整齐、神智清醒地坐在耶稣脚前，他们都很害怕。目击者把事情的始末告诉了他们。格拉森地区的居民都十分害怕，请求耶稣离开那里，耶稣便乘船回去了。那从前被鬼附身的人恳求跟耶稣同行，耶稣却对他说：“你回家吧，把上帝为你所行的奇事告诉别人。”他就回去，走遍全城，四处传扬耶稣为他所行的奇事。

他们来到湖对岸的格拉森地区。耶稣刚下船，就遇见一个被污鬼附身的人从坟场迎面而来。那人以坟场为家，从来没有人能把他捆住，就算用铁链也锁不住他。尽管有人多次用铁链和脚镣锁住他，但他挣断了铁链，砸碎了脚镣。没有人能制服他。他昼夜在坟场和山野间大喊大叫，又用石头砍自己。他远远看见耶稣，就跑过去跪下来拜祂，喊着说：“至高上帝的儿子耶稣啊，我和你有什么关系？看在上帝的份上，求你不要折磨我！”原来，耶稣已经对他身上的鬼说：“污鬼，从这人身上出来！”耶稣问：“你叫什么名字？”他说：“我的名字叫‘群’，因为我们是一大群。”接着污鬼再三哀求耶稣，不要把它们逐出那个地区。当时有一大群猪在附近山坡上觅食。污鬼就哀求耶稣说：“让我们到猪群里去，附在它们身上吧！”耶稣允许了，污鬼就离开那人，进入猪群。那群猪就一路奔下陡坡，冲进湖里淹死了，约有两千头。放猪的人都吓跑了。他们把这消息传遍了城里乡间，于是人人都跑来看个究竟。他们到了耶稣那里，看见那一度被群鬼附身的人神智清醒、衣着整齐地坐在那里，都很害怕。目睹这件事的人向他们讲述整个经过。他们请耶稣离开他们的地方。耶稣上了船准备离开的时候，那被鬼附过的人恳求耶稣让他随行。耶稣没有答应，只对他说：“回去见你的家人，将主为你所做的事和祂怜悯你的经过告诉他们吧！”这人就回到低加坡里一带宣扬耶稣为他所行的奇事，大家都很惊奇。

你们也知道，拿撒勒人耶稣是上帝用圣灵和大能膏立的。祂周游四方，广行善事，医好被魔鬼压制的人，因为上帝与祂同在。

祂的名声传遍了整个叙利亚。人们把一切患病的，就是患各种疾病的、疼痛的、癫痫的、瘫痪的，以及被鬼附身的都带到祂面前，祂都医治了他们。

在亚拿的儿子珊迦与雅亿的时代，大路行人绝迹，旅客绕道而行。

亚摩利人、迦南人、革迦撒人和耶布斯人的土地。”
