有一天，耶穌和門徒上了船，他對門徒說：「我們渡到湖的對岸去吧。」他們就開了船。船行的時候，耶穌睡着了。湖上忽然起了狂風，船將灌滿了水，很危險。門徒去叫醒他，說：「老師！老師！我們快沒命啦！」耶穌醒了，斥責那狂風大浪，風浪就止住，平靜了。耶穌對他們說：「你們的信心在哪裏呢？」他們又懼怕又驚訝，彼此說：「這到底是誰？他吩咐風和水，連風和水都聽從他。」

門徒離開眾人，耶穌已在船上，他們就請他一同去；也有別的船和他同行。忽然狂風大作，波浪打入船內，以致船灌滿了水。耶穌在船尾上，枕着枕頭睡覺。門徒叫醒他，說：「老師！我們快沒命了，你不管嗎？」耶穌醒了，斥責那風，向海說：「住了吧！靜了吧！」風就止住，大大平靜了。耶穌對他們說：「為甚麼膽怯？你們還沒有信心嗎？」他們就非常懼怕，彼此說：「這到底是誰？連風和海都聽從他。」

耶穌上了船，渡過海，來到自己的城裏。

耶穌回答他們：「你們去，把所看見、所聽見的告訴約翰：就是盲人看見，瘸子行走，痲瘋病人得潔淨，聾子聽見，死人復活，窮人聽到福音。
