有一天，耶稣和门徒上了船，他对门徒说：“我们渡到湖的对岸去吧。”他们就开了船。船行的时候，耶稣睡着了。湖上忽然起了狂风，船将灌满了水，很危险。门徒去叫醒他，说：“老师！老师！我们快没命啦！”耶稣醒了，斥责那狂风大浪，风浪就止住，平静了。耶稣对他们说：“你们的信心在哪里呢？”他们又惧怕又惊讶，彼此说：“这到底是谁？他吩咐风和水，连风和水都听从他。”

门徒离开众人，耶稣已在船上，他们就请他一同去；也有别的船和他同行。忽然狂风大作，波浪打入船内，以致船灌满了水。耶稣在船尾上，枕着枕头睡觉。门徒叫醒他，说：“老师！我们快没命了，你不管吗？”耶稣醒了，斥责那风，向海说：“住了吧！静了吧！”风就止住，大大平静了。耶稣对他们说：“为什么胆怯？你们还没有信心吗？”他们就非常惧怕，彼此说：“这到底是谁？连风和海都听从他。”

耶稣上了船，渡过海，来到自己的城里。

耶稣回答他们：“你们去，把所看见、所听见的告诉约翰：就是盲人看见，瘸子行走，麻风病人得洁净，聋子听见，死人复活，穷人听到福音。
