有一天，耶穌對門徒說：「我們到湖的對岸去吧。」於是他們坐船前往對岸。途中耶穌睡著了。不料湖上忽然狂風大作，船灌滿了水，非常危險。門徒過來喚醒耶穌，說：「主啊，主啊！我們快淹死了！」耶穌醒來，就斥責風浪，頓時風平浪靜了。耶穌對他們說：「你們的信心在哪裡呢？」門徒又驚又怕，彼此議論說：「祂究竟是誰？一發命令，連風浪都聽祂的！」

他們就離開眾人，上了耶穌乘坐的船，一起渡到湖的對岸，還有其他船隻跟著去。忽然，湖面上狂風大作，波浪撞擊船身，船內幾乎灌滿了水。耶穌卻還在船尾枕著枕頭睡覺。門徒叫醒了祂，說：「老師，我們快淹死了，你怎麼不管呢？」耶穌起來斥責狂風，對著湖面說：「靜下來！停下來！」於是就風平浪靜了。祂對門徒說：「你們為什麼這樣害怕呢？你們還是沒有信心嗎？」他們極其害怕，彼此議論說：「祂到底是誰？連風浪都聽祂的！」

耶穌坐船回到湖對岸自己住的城鎮。

耶穌便回答說：「你們回去把所見所聞告訴約翰，就是瞎子看見，瘸子走路，痲瘋病人得潔淨，聾子聽見，死人復活，窮人聽到福音。
