耶穌說：「讓死人埋葬他們的死人。你跟從我吧！」

你們從前在過犯和未受割禮的肉體中死了，上帝卻赦免了你們一切的過犯，使你們與基督一同活過來，

因為使一切顯露出來的就是光。所以有話說：「你這睡着的人醒過來吧！要從死人中復活，基督要光照你了。」

可是你這個弟弟是死而復活，失而復得的，所以我們理當歡喜慶祝。』」

從前，你們因着自己的過犯罪惡而死了。

竟在我們因過犯而死了的時候，使我們與基督一同活過來－可見你們得救是本乎恩－

又過了一天，耶穌想要往加利利去。他找到腓力，就對他說：「來跟從我！」

但好宴樂的寡婦活着也算是死了。

耶穌沿着加利利海邊行走，看見兩兄弟，就是那叫彼得的西門和他弟弟安得烈，正往海裏撒網；他們本是打魚的。耶穌對他們說：「來跟從我，我要叫你們得人如得魚一樣。」他們立刻捨了網，跟從他。耶穌從那裏往前走，看見另外兩兄弟，就是西庇太的兒子雅各和他弟弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上補網，耶穌就呼召他們。他們立刻捨了船，辭別父親，跟從了耶穌。

耶穌從那裏往前走，看見一個人名叫馬太，在稅關坐着，就對他說：「來跟從我！」他就起來跟從耶穌。
