“ Lord,” he told Him,“ I’m ready to go with You both to prison and to death!”“ I tell you, Peter,” He said,“ the rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know Me!”

In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not say good-bye to all his possessions cannot be My disciple.

As they were traveling on the road someone said to Him,“ I will follow You wherever You go!”Jesus told him,“ Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”Then He said to another,“ Follow Me.”“ Lord,” he said,“ first let me go bury my father.”But He told him,“ Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and spread the news of the kingdom of God.”

Then the scribe said to Him,“ You are right, Teacher! You have correctly said that He is One, and there is no one else except Him.And to love Him with all your heart, with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, is far more important than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.”When Jesus saw that he answered intelligently, He said to him,“ You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to question Him any longer.

Now great crowds were traveling with Him. So He turned and said to them:“ If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters— yes, and even his own life— he cannot be My disciple.Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

Where is the philosopher? Where is the scholar? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish?
