And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

And ye have made void the word of God because of your tradition.Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.

I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

But as for me, I am full of power by the Spirit of Jehovah, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

The Lord Jehovah hath given me the tongue of them that are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as they that are taught.

And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet.And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay.

but I say unto you, Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;

Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts;who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation.

saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat:all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, these do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.But all their works they do to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake.

The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? saith Jehovah.Is not my word like fire? saith Jehovah; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with defiled hands?And he said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me.But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men.And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition.For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death:but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given to God;ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother;making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do.

Moses indeed said, A prophet shall the Lord God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me; to him shall ye hearken in all things whatsoever he shall speak unto you.And it shall be, that every soul that shall not hearken to that prophet, shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.Woe unto you, ye blind guides, that say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.Ye fools and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that hath sanctified the gold?And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor.Ye blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.Ye blind guides, that strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel!

but I say unto you, that every one that putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.

For the king’s word hath power; and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
