Or can anyone make a peg from it to hang things on?No! If it was not made into anything useful when it was whole, how much less can it be made into anything when the fire has burned it up and it is charred?“ Therefore, this is what the sovereign LORD says: Like the wood of the vine is among the trees of the forest which I have provided as fuel for the fire– so I will provide the residents of Jerusalem as fuel.I will set my face against them– although they have escaped from the fire, the fire will still consume them! Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.

Then Jesus told this parable:“ A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.So he said to the worker who tended the vineyard,‘ For three years now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and each time I inspect it I find none. Cut it down! Why should it continue to deplete the soil?’But the worker answered him,‘ Sir, leave it alone this year too, until I dig around it and put fertilizer on it.Then if it bears fruit next year, very well, but if not, you can cut it down.’”

After noticing a fig tree by the road he went to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. He said to it,“ Never again will there be fruit from you!” And the fig tree withered at once.When the disciples saw it they were amazed, saying,“ How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”
