Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your sins.”

Seek the LORD while he makes himself available; call to him while he is nearby!The wicked need to abandon their lifestyle and sinful people their plans. They should return to the LORD, and he will show mercy to them, and to their God, for he will freely forgive them.

The tax collector, however, stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said,‘ God, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!’

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I look the other way; when you offer your many prayers, I do not listen, because your hands are covered with blood.

Then Jesus told them a parable to show them they should always pray and not lose heart.

With every prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and to this end be alert, with all perseverance and requests for all the saints.

Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seats in the synagogues and elaborate greetings in the marketplaces!

“ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

And whatever you ask in prayer, if you believe, you will receive.”

When you call out to me and come to me in prayer, I will hear your prayers.

He said also to the man who had invited him,“ When you host a dinner or a banquet, don’t invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors so you can be invited by them in return and get repaid.But when you host an elaborate meal, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.Then you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

They devour widows’ property, and as a show make long prayers. They will receive a more severe punishment.”

Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you!

But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,“ God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.”

During the evening, morning, and noontime I will lament and moan, and he will hear me.

When Daniel realized that a written decree had been issued, he entered his home, where the windows in his upper room opened toward Jerusalem. Three times daily he was kneeling and offering prayers and thanks to his God just as he had been accustomed to do previously.

I prayed to the LORD my God, confessing in this way:“ O Lord, great and awesome God who is faithful to his covenant with those who love him and keep his commandments,we have sinned! We have done what is wrong and wicked; we have rebelled by turning away from your commandments and standards.We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, and to all the inhabitants of the land as well.“ You are righteous, O Lord, but we are humiliated this day– the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far away in all the countries in which you have scattered them, because they have behaved unfaithfully toward you.O LORD, we have been humiliated– our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors– because we have sinned against you.Yet the Lord our God is compassionate and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.We have not obeyed the LORD our God by living according to his laws that he set before us through his servants the prophets.“ All Israel has broken your law and turned away by not obeying you. Therefore you have poured out on us the judgment solemnly threatened in the law of Moses the servant of God, for we have sinned against you.He has carried out his threats against us and our rulers who were over us by bringing great calamity on us– what has happened to Jerusalem has never been equaled under all heaven!Just as it is written in the law of Moses, so all this calamity has come on us. Still we have not tried to pacify the LORD our God by turning back from our sin and by seeking wisdom from your reliable moral standards.The LORD was mindful of the calamity, and he brought it on us. For the LORD our God is just in all he has done, and we have not obeyed him.“ Now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with great power and made a name for yourself that is remembered to this day– we have sinned and behaved wickedly.O Lord, according to all your justice, please turn your raging anger away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain. For due to our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors, Jerusalem and your people are mocked by all our neighbors.“ So now, our God, accept the prayer and requests of your servant, and show favor to your devastated sanctuary for your own sake.Listen attentively, my God, and hear! Open your eyes and look on our desolated ruins and the city called by your name. For it is not because of our own righteous deeds that we are praying to you, but because your compassion is abundant.O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, pay attention, and act! Don’t delay, for your own sake, O my God! For your city and your people are called by your name.”

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him up– and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness.

“ When you fast, do not look sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces unattractive so that people will see them fasting. I tell you the truth, they have their reward.

The LORD abhors every arrogant person; rest assured that they will not go unpunished.

In his teaching Jesus also said,“ Watch out for the experts in the law. They like walking around in long robes and elaborate greetings in the marketplaces,

“ But woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You keep locking people out of the kingdom of heaven! For you neither enter nor permit those trying to enter to go in.

The LORD abhors the sacrifices of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive it, so that your joy may be complete.

For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call out to God at all times?

Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”

Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.At the same time pray for us too, that God may open a door for the message so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.
