Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,“ Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

“ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you.Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.

Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him,“ You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath.” In the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live on the earth.

Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether they eat little or much, but as for the rich, their abundance permits them no sleep.I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners,or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when they have children there is nothing left for them to inherit.

Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

Jesus looked at him and said,“ How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!

Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

“ Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.

Jesus answered,“ If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

“ If I have put my trust in gold or said to pure gold,‘ You are my security,’

To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
